While it may sound absurd to discuss disadvantages of Democracy in the World’s largest democracy, it seems there if some weight in the arguments that democracy has not been entirely good for this nation. In a nation where about 40% (400 Millions) of the population is illiterate and about 25% of the population (250 Millions) live below poverty line which is less than a dollar a day, one can only imagine the kind of governments thrown up when this 40% votes. In the last General elections held in India, in 2009, only 59% of the eligible population voted which given the demographics of the country is about 30% of the total population. Of these 30% voters 30% voted for the UPA which therefore won and came to power. The UPA actually received about 153 million votes which are actually only 10% of the population. We the mango people are often debating over the matters the white kurta clad people are upto..yes the Indian Politicians and politics. On a survey conducted 9.99( so you can round it of to 10) of 10 people have a negetive opinion about politics..while i agree it is not always so never the less it is often so... As I sit today trying digest the fact that all the matches of IPL have now been moved (almost) to Mumbai, I wonder where this will take us. You see Shiv Sena has already tried doing a lot of damage when they protested against SRK's Movie. And they still have not said anything that comforts a cricket enthusiast about the IPL. You never know what they will be up to. The AP government on the other hand is trying to pursue Deccan Chargers to boycott the entire IPL itself!! This may further lead to confusion this time between a Government and the BCCI which may have complex implications. Hope things fall in place like last time and cricket takes its deserving center stage soon...
